TASUED deputy vice-chancellor kidnapped

THE Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State, Professor Olusoga Olusanya, has been kidnapped. We learnt that Olusanya was abducted late Monday evening while returning from the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNNAB), Abeokuta, to his home in Ijebu-Ode. It was gathered that Olusanya had gone to supervise the ongoing postgraduate examination as external examiner in the institution. This development was coming about two weeks after the mother of a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Honourable Remmy Hazzan, Mrs Racheal Hazzan, was kidnapped. Hazzan’s mother was released last Friday having spent 10 days in the abductor’s den. The incident was reported to have happened on the Odogbolu-Ijebu-Ode-Ore-Benin Expressway. The DVC was said to have been abducted alongside his driver who was later released by the road side at Odogbolu.

Health workers begin strike on Thursday

Health workers across Nigeria will begin an indefinite strike on Thursday over the unresolved leadership crisis in the health sector, non-commencement of residency training programme for health professionals, non-implementation of new call duty allowance and non-payment of arrears.

Ebola: Second Texas health worker tests positive.

A second health worker in the US state of Texas has tested positive for Ebola, health officials say. A 26-year-old female nurse is already receiving treatment after becoming infected by a Liberian man who died from the deadly virus last week. Meanwhile, the UN’s Ebola mission chief says the world is falling behind in the race to contain the virus. The World Health Organisation says 4,447 people have died from the outbreak, mainly in West Africa. Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea have been hardest hit by the outbreak, which began in December 2013 but was confirmed in March.

Don Jazzy surprises Computer Science Student with Money

Don Jazzy may not be the richest entertainer in Nigeria but to many people he is, because he is that one person in the entertainment industry who has the heart to assist people in need. He doesn’t need to be pushed before offering a helping hand to someone he has the capacity to assist.

Recently one David James, a young Computer Science student, who has been trying to save money to buy a his own computer but could not meet up, reached out to some celebrities on twitter. He begged them to help him with just N10,000 to complete the money he has managed to save to buy a computer.
Out of all the celebrities David James sent the message to, only Don Jazzy responded. And guess what? he sent N30,000 to the young student’s account. What a kind heart! See a confirmation below:

Another Deadly Virus Surfaces – Marburg Haemorrhagic Fever (MHF)

With West Africa, and indeed the rest of the world, still reeling from the deaths brought about by the Ebola virus, the recent death of a Ugandan hospital technician of another deadly viral disease, Marburg Haemorrhagic Fever (MHF), has brought fresh fears..

Uganda’s Ministry of Health disclosed that a total of 99 people who had been in contact with the victim had been moved to quarantine. These contacts are being monitored for signs and symptoms of the disease after tests confirmed that the 30-year-old man who worked as a radiographer in a Kampala hospital died of the disease. The man was said to have had a headache, abdominal pains, diarrhoea and vomited blood before he died.

Marburg virus was first identified in 1967, after simultaneous outbreaks in Marburg (from which the disease takes its name) and Frankfurt both in Germany, Belgrade, Serbia and Yugoslavia. It was later traced back to monkeys imported from Uganda for laboratory work. Since then, the virus has appeared sporadically, with just a dozen outbreaks on record. The most recent outbreak, also in Uganda, in 2012, killed four out of 15 patients, according to the United States of America’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Celebrity Marriages in Naija and The Big Problem of Adultery

Our female celebrities should admit that they are horrible at choosing their men. And as a celebrity, destroying your man publicly makes you look stupid because you are the one who chose to be with him in the first place. Most of you ladies want a perfect man because you have a natural need to want to fix something about him. And when it fails, of course, it becomes his fault for being who he always was.
Even if the guy you married was the most disgusting pig in the whole universe, you should admit that lowering your standards so severely was your choice. Every divorce is built on those things that were created during courtship. It is during this time that the future of a marriage is decided. If you don’t have the ability to analyse what was injected into your brain during those few critical years or months of courtship, then whatever happens in your marriage is your funeral, not ours…

Must all celebrities publicly play the blame game at the end of their marriages, assigning blames like football fans after a bad match day? Must they turn their divorces into a bride versus groom contest with their fans taking sides? Trust the Nigerian press and bloggers who are ever too quick to join the accusation bandwagon to exonerate their preferred spouse without proper investigation. I wonder why Naija Bet hasn’t thought of adding a slot on their platform for forecasting the longevity of celebrity marriages in Nigeria.
It is much easier to predict how long a Nigerian celebrity marriage will last these days than the scoreline of a Chelsea FC versus Arsenal FC match. When you get right down to the root of most celebrity divorces, you will discover it all boils down to one simple conclusion to which most females adhere: their men are always at fault. The guilt and punishment are simply assigned to whoever happens to have the penis.

Lagos ‘bird woman’ dies in hospital

A middle-aged woman who caused a stir at Cappa Bus Stop, Oshodi Lagos on Friday, after being accused of witchcraft, has died.

Some eyewitnesses claimed the woman had fallen as a ‘bird’ from the cable, and confessed to have some metaphysical powers. Although policemen from the Mushin Division, Olosan were later said to have taken the woman away, she was already unconscious before arriving at the hospital.

He said, “Eyewitnesses said there was a bird which fell down and turned into a woman. So, a large crowd gathered round her. She was not attacked. Eventually, when the police got there, they rescued the woman from the surging crowd. But unfortunately, she died, and her body has been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital’s morgue.”
When our correspondent visited the area, a policeman at the junction said the woman was coming from the Agbado Ijaiye area of Lagos, and heading for her husband’s residence in Mushin.

Ebola epidemic could lead to failed states -WHO

The Ebola epidemic threatens the “very survival” of societies and could lead to failed states, the World Health Organization has warned.

The outbreak, which has killed some 4,000 people in West Africa, has led to a “crisis for international peace and security”, WHO head Margaret Chan said.

She also warned of the cost of panic “spreading faster than the virus”.
Meanwhile, medics have largely ignored a strike call in Liberia, the centre of the deadliest-ever Ebola outbreak.

Nurses and medical assistants had been urged to strike overdanger money and conditions. However, most were working as normal on Monday, the BBC’s Jonathan Paye-Layleh in
Monrovia said. A union official said the government had coerced workers – but the government said it had simply asked them to be
reasonable. In a speech delivered on her behalf at a conference in the
Philippines, Ms Chan said Ebola was a historic risk. “I have never seen a health event threaten the very survival of societies and governments in already very poor countries,” she said. “I have never seen an infectious disease contribute so strongly to potential state failure.”

She warned of the economic impact of “rumours and panic spreading faster than the virus”, citing a World Bank estimate that 90% of the cost of the outbreak would arise from “irrational attempts of the public to avoid infection”.

Atiku pays N27m, picks APC presidential form

A former Vice President Atiku Abubakar paid the stipulated N27.5m to pick the presidential nomination form of the All Progressives Congress on Monday.

Atiku picked the form after a short ceremony at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.
Speaking during the event, Atiku enjoined the party leaders to ensure a level-playing ground for all aspirants before and during the primaries.

The former vice president was the first to formally declare his intention to contest the presidential ticket and also happened to be the first to pick the nomination form.

Atiku said, “Mr. Chairman, I need not let you know my political antecedents as far as the provision of a level playing field for every member of this party because that is the only thing or one of the things that will make us different from the so called ruling party.

20 Important Relationship Rules That Are Often Ignored By Rachel Harrison

1. Be Honest.
Be nice, but be honest. Trust is vital. Trust is gained through honesty.

2. Compromise.
There’s a complexity to compromising. With gender roles ever evolving it’s important to recognize it’s not about who wears the pants. It’s about balance. Compromise is an inherent part of a relationship. You will have to sacrifice in a relationship. That’s the nature of relationships. If you want your way all of the time, stay solo. It’s about finding a healthy balance in compromise. Both people in a relationship must understand
that necessity of compromise and sacrifice in a relationship to make it work.

3. It’s healthy to argue.
It’s healthy to bicker. It’s not healthy to have screaming matches. Some couples brag about “never fighting.” That’s nothing to brag about. It
probably means that one of you is holding something in.

4. It’s not your job to fix the person you love.
You can’t fix them. You can only help them fix themselves. You can’t resolve their work issues or wipe away all of their insecurities or get their
parents back together. All you can do is be there for them and help them through it. Getting frustrated about your inability to fix your partner will agitate their struggles and strain your relationship.

5. Understand your significant other’s background.
It is important to recognize the person you’re with has not always beenthat person. They’ve gone through things to make them that person.
Appreciate and understand their past. Put them in context. Maybe he doesn’t express his feelings because his family is not particularly
expressive, or maybe she is so insecure because her ex was very critical. Be conscious of this.

6. Do not underestimate the power of thoughtfulness.
Listen. Pay attention. There is nothing more meaningful or memorable than mentioning something in passing and then having your partner bring it back up later.

7. Do not limit expressions of love to grand gestures.
It’s impossible to keep up. Fancy dinners or luxury vacations are wonderful, but love does not have a dollar value. If given the option between a weekly sunset walk or an annual vacation, the majority would pick the weekly walk. Money does not show love. Gestures show love. A free gesture also holds value.

8. Take all advice with a grain of salt.
Rule #13 stands, nobody knows yourrelationship. Advice/tips can help, but only you and your partner know what’s right for you and your partner. Don’t take any outside material as an absolute truth.

9. Research.
If you have a relationship question or need advice, the internet/books can be helpful tools. There is nothing wrong with getting some perspective and advice from outside sources.

10. Value each other’s interests.
If you have different interests, which is perfectly fine, make sure you value what their interests are. Even if vintage airplanes or nail art don’t
interest you, do your best to pay attention and have respect for what your partner likes.

11. If you are not getting something you need, ask for it.
Don’t be afraid to ask for what you need. Your partner is not a mind
reader.

12. Do NOT get your sex tips from Cosmo.

13. Nobody understands your relationship.
And you don’t understand anyone else’s. There are no exceptions to this rule.

14. Follow the Harry Burns Airport Rule.
Do not stop doing things you used to do in the beginning of the relationship. If you used to take your guy/girl to the airport, still take them. You should never stop trying to show your significant other that you care. Nothing is worse than hearing “How come you never ____________ anymore?”

15. Spite will get you nowhere.
If the other person hurts you in a relationship, hurting them back on purpose will likely destroy your relationship. If you feel the need to “get
back at” the person you’re with, you shouldn’t be with them.

16. Split the bills.
Relationships should be even or close to even. It is not a romantic idea, but it is fair. Communicate about what you each feel comfortable with. No one person should put more effort into a relationship than the other, so no one person should put more money into a relationship. It will
allow resentment and discomfort to build.

17. Accept that no one is perfect.
It’s about finding the right person, not the perfect person. The perfect person doesn’t exist. Everyone has flaws. Everyone makes mistakes.
Prince Charming probably had one beer too many on occasion. Cinderella probably spent too much on shoes.

18. Don’t be afraid to have the tough conversations.
If the relationship is strong and going somewhere, you should bring up the tough stuff. If you’re falling in love but have some concerns, bring them up sooner rather than later. It’s difficult to have serious conversations but it’s better to discover deal breakers earlier on.

19. Trust your instincts.
If you feel in your gut something is wrong, bring it up. 9 times out of 10 your instincts are correct and ignoring them will get you nowhere.

20. Be wary when discussing relationship troubles with your friends.
To a certain extent, it is healthy to discuss your relationship with your friends, but be cautious. If you discuss every little worry, every argument,
if you air every grievance, you will poison your friends against your significant other. Find a healthy way/source to vent to that won’t backfire.

Dangote To Invest $12 Billion In Nigerian Economy - Business.

The President, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote has said hewill invest $12bn in Nigeria’s economy. This was contained in a statement felicitating with Muslims on the Sallah celebration.

He expressed his firm belief in the Nigerian economy. He said that of the $12b, $2.3 billion would be invested in sugar and rice production in Adamawa State to create about 180,000 jobs and combat terrorism in the North-East.

He said that the Nigerian atmosphere is good for business and that he wouldn't have invested in the country if he didn’t believe that.

While wishing all Muslims a spiritually rewarding festival, Dangote described the current situation in the country as a passing phase. He urged Nigerians not to allow themselves to be overwhelmed by despair but to be determined and courageous.

“It is high time Nigerians rededicated themselves and maintained the virtues, without which the country would continue to wander hopelessly, ” he added.

4 Men Body Languages That Tell If He Likes You Or Not

With men, it is really common for actions to speak louder than words. Understanding his physical cues can sometimes be just as important as what he is saying to you.
Here are some signs to look out for that there may be more to what he’s saying:

1. HE’S DISTRACTED
If he’s constantly checking his phone or shifting his eyes to look over your shoulder, he’s probably not as interested in you as you’re hoping. Distraction is an indicator of disinterest, so even if he says, “I’m really interested in how
your day went,” you can bet he’s more interested in the latest email that’s popped up in his inbox, his Facebook newsfeed, or the brunette sitting behind you.

2. HE HAS HIS HANDS ON HIS HIPS OR ARMS CROSSED
Both of these postures signify a defiant attitude. So, if he stands this way he may actually disagree with you when he says he agrees. Ask him if how he’s feeling and invite him to share his feelings in a positive way.

3. HE BLINKS OR BLUSHES
Blinking frequently is a surefire sign that he’s interested in you, even if it might be too soon to admit it. Blushing sounds more obvious, but it’s also a sign that he’s embarrassed about how much he likes you!

4. HE’S SLOUCHING
If he seems slouchy or hunched over, he may have had a bad day at work or had a fight with his boss and he’s feeling sheepish. Often times, men don’t want to share their stories of weakness because they’re afraid of looking less-than- strong, so they won’t reveal the entire story. Ask him how his day went and you may get him to open up!

device before it sends it to the retail shelves.

Maburg Virus Enters Uganda. . . 99 People Quarantined!

Uganda’s Ministry of health are on red alert as Marburg virus a haemorrhagic viral disease quite similar to Ebola, threatens to spread the more! They announced on Sunday that it had entered the country and so far, 99 people have been quarantined for survillence. In addition, the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni whilst speaking today, pleaded citizens to avoid body contacts in order to curb the spread of the Marburg hemorrhagic fever.
Earlier on the World Health Organisation had noted that Marburg is a severe and highly fatal disease caused by a virus from the same family as the one that causes Ebola hemorrhagic fever. The illness caused by Marburg virus begins abruptly with severe headaches and severe malaise.
Museveni, while attending the annual National Prayer Breakfast, said during the current outbreak the cultural norm which involved among others shaking hands and hugging must be suspended.
Museveni also advised populations staying near forests to avoid eating monkeys, saying they were the known hosts of the deadly zoonotic diseases stressing that, such cultural practices were partly responsible for rapid spread of Ebola in West Africa where the disease has killed over 3,000 people.

Victorious: Linda Ikeji’s Blog Restored By Google

In a new twist to the ongoing plagiarism scandal, blogger Linda Ikeji has had her blog restored by Google.
In a new post on the blog, Miss Ikeji wrote:
Google has restored my blog. About 24 hours after it was deleted. I hear it’s a record. Yay! Normally it takes weeks or even months for Google to restore a deleted blog. But we are special here! Lol
The people who took it down knew what to do. You get a number of strikes on blogger and after that it is automatically deleted. It’s automated, programmed to work that way. But the human beings got involved, checked out all the filed complaints, saw they were bogus and restored the Linda Ikeji Blog.
Congrats to her.

Google Explains Why Linda Ikeji’s Blog Was Deleted

Google has finally weighed in on the controversy surrounding Linda Ikeji’s blog, explaining why it was removed. Google’s Manager for Communications and Public Affairs, Anglo-Phone West Africa, Taiwo Kolade-Ogunlade explained to Punch newspaper why the popular news site had to be removed. “To respect the rights of copyright holders, Google clearly spells out how users of its products and services can get permission to use someone else’s intellectual property such as text, songs, images and footages. Google is no respecter of anybody when it came to the issues of copyright infringement, copyright is a big deal. “Google as an organisation takes issues of copyright seriously and belongs to a group of digital companies that respect copyrights. “Copyright is a big deal and this is why you can’t just go and pick up another person’s intellectual property or content and lay claim to its ownership. “That is why we have copyright guidance. I don’t know if Linda picked up any content and I don’t know what content is the bone of contention-neither have I looked into the complaints personally. “But it is not a case of witch-hunting and has nothing to do with Linda Ikeji’s personality or anyone else because there is a process, and irrespective of who you are in the world, that process would apply to you. “It has become imperative for online entrepreneurs to respect the rights of copyright holders noting that the Internet community should be built on mutual trust and general respect. “Let’s respect other people’s rights and intellectual property. Making money off other people’s content without permission is wrong. Although the Internet is inanimate, it is the content on it that gives it life. These are the issues. “Whenever owners of online contents come after you accusing you of using their content, it is because they have families to feed and businesses to sustain. “People should also understand that copyrights does not only apply to text, but also extends to literary works, images and photographs, music files and MP3s, movies, movie trailers and videos as well as software.”
